Hi,
I've noticed in the last few months that my emachines 2230 pc, (approx. 5 years old), is reluctant to power on. It has also had the fan running continuously which is different to when I got it. Sometimes it takes as many as 10 attempts to power on (by pressing the power-on switch) before it decides to come to life. The blue light comes on at the switch, but the machine doesn't want to wake up. It sometimes helps if I remove any additional peripherals by disconnecting USB leads etc. It sounds like it is on the verge of entering a deeper coma than I'll be able to wake it from. In a proactive attempt to prevent the computer dying, can you recommend a cure before its too late? Is it related to the power switch/ PSU/ motherboard/ CPU?
Thanks
jh

Hmmm sounds like a power supply issue or something with Windows. If your rig is 5 years old and you are still running the power supply that came with the PC, it may be best to change it now. The only thing I am not sure of is whether your PC takes a standard ATX power supply. Do you have one of the nextgen cases or is it the older, all white case? If it can take an ATX power supply, check out some lines from Sparkle, FSP, or Antec (Basiq or Earthwatts) as they are good cheap supplies. Around 300-350W should do if its the stock PC. Make sure it comes with a 20+4 pin 12V line and not a 24 pin one since your motherboard probably only has a 20 pin connection.
