Hi, I have brought a dead m5310 back to life, though It still has a issue. When I boot it up and press the del key to run the setup, nothing happens it just boots into xp (boots fine into xp) Also when I boot it, the emachine page comes up (the one with the "hit del to open bios" this page will just hang there until I press any key, then it boots into xp fine. Once I am in all the keys work fine including the del key? When I first started loading the OS I was able to access the bios by hitting del??
Thanks in advance for any help...
KR Confused

Many, many thanks for an excellent post. I was ready for throwing mine in the bin, but this post helped me strip mine down and replace the memory hidden under the keyboard, now i works wonderfully so many thanks again. Just one thing now, how do I reduce the 32MB of memory dedicated to graphics now?

That is selected from a bios menu however, as I recall 32mb is the minimum

My original purchase M-5312 just shut down today. It was on AC power and then stopped. No power LED, no battery LED. Nada. (I had suspected the AC power failed and the battery drained to 0. However the power output is 18.5VDC.)

It had been treated very well since I bought it and was used intermittently until the last month, since which it has been in use perhaps 5 hours a day, always on AC. I did note that the underside of the case near the power plug port was hot to the touch, but I thought it did so since Day #1. The power transformer seemed to get hotter as well, but that could be my imagination.

I put it and the power supply in the freezer for 30 minutes, still nada.

Should I attempt to open it up, blow out the fan blades and re-paste the heat sink as discussed above?

If I HOLD DOWN the Power button, the battery charging light flashes for 5 seconds and stops.

Does no Power LED light-up indicate something more sinister?

I am posting here because this thread seems the most current. I appreciate any advice. Thank you.

I recently followed the posted pix to clean the Heat Exchanger intake and fan. Now that I am a professional at opening the case Laughing I would like to add additional RAM.

I had previously upgraded the externally-accessed RAM to 512, so now I have 768mb.

What is the exact specification and the maximum RAM card I can install from the internal side? Is this the place to buy it at: http://tinyurl.com/2vbsp5z

Thanks.
