Hi Folks,

Here are some photos that may assist some in the pursuit of UPGRADES!!! Very Happy

Please note M5310 and up users: This does not describe disconnecting the wireless minipci card antenna cable. The antenna is embedded in the LCD panel, therefore you must either lay the LCD panel close by during disassembly or detach the antenna cable from the WiFi card on the underside and pass it through the motherboard access hole.

Thanks Ed! I may be following these instructions in the very near future to try and determine what is overheating relating to my HDD problem. I think it may be one of the chips under the touchpad.

I noticed your F2 key has a different icon than mine. Mine is an 'e' in the eMachine style with little lines radiating out on either side. Also my AMD sticker is different.

I thought you changed your GPU heatsink?

After following the instructions I found a couple steps that were left out.

For notebooks with integrated WiFi you have to deal with the grey and black antenna wires when removing the LCD panel. You can either disconnect them from the mini-PCI card and feed them up through the board, or you can just remove them from their channel and carefully lay the LCD to the left of the notebook. The wires are long enough to allow for that.

The other step is the daughterboard that contains the power button, volume buttons, etc. I see you removed it prior to removing the LCD panel but you don't show that step. That daughterboard can be left attached for disassembly, but I don't know if it will properly connect in place if it is reassembled as part of the large plastic cover. I removed it so I could re-attach it without the case in place so I could power up the notebook without the case.

The speaker setup is pretty cool. There's a sealed black plastic box that goes the entire width of the notebook that the speakers are mounted in. Pretty neat little resonant chamber.

The ribbon cable to the touchpad contains two words that make a rather profane statement. I can only see one of the words in your screenshot. I'll leave the other word for those that are adventurous enough to take apart their notebook. :)

Thanks Dan,

I made some corrections. I must've been asleep at the shutter button!
About that ribbon cable... I don't see anything wrong. O:)

 Post subject: thermal grease?

I noticed on the (what i assume are) copper heat heat pipes running from the heatsink on top of the cpu to the fan, you have some kind of grease or paste on/around them. Does that make any noticible difference in the temperature of the laptop?

Hi Josh,

Good question, I don't actually know. I do know however, when the paste wasn't there, there was a relatively large air gap between the heat pipes and the cast aluminum "heatsink holder" . Being bestowed with vast superior knowledge... I ASSuMEd that if I applied the thermal paste along those pipes, it would transfer some of the heat to the relatively large aluminum holder. Since applying the paste there and between the actual copper heat pad and the CPU, I have yet to experience an overheat in over a year. If I had it to do all over, I would do it the same again.

It appears an image missing (the one just below the picture of the removal of the ram).

Hi tomosino,

Quick answer, no. The graphics chip is "bonded" to the motherboard with a million solder joints. You're stuck with it. There are some places that make (hack) graphics drivers to gain more performance here and there but for the most part don't do much at all. Use the search feature for the 320 chip and you'll get more topics than you can imagine.
