The OEM Intel D845GVSR Motherboard is fitted in a large number of Emachines. It is an 845GV/ICH4 chipset with support for 400 and 533 FSB Intel Processors. Graphics are onboard, though you may add a PCI card. Supports memory up to 2GB of DDR200/266/333.

There are 3 variants which merit a mention.
The first is the original Emachines Seabreeze model with a typical bios string (which you can find in system information) of SR84510B.44T.0019.P03. This generally came with a Northwood 400FSB Celeron, Realtek ALC202A Audio and a modem card depending on model. The second is late 2004, and is the same except for a typical bios string of SR84510B.44T.0038.P07, which adds support for Prescott 533FSB Celerons D325 to D340 with their lower Vcore voltages. There are no official Bios upgrades for these two models.

If you want to try fitting a Pentium in this motherboard, the best advice I can give you is to refer to this CPU support chart from Intel: http://developer.intel.com/design/motherbd/sr/sr_proc.htm. Bear in mind the 2.40A and 2.80A 1MB cache Pentiums are Prescott cored and will only be supported if your motherboard bios is already supporting a Prescott D series Celeron.

Lastly the Gateway Seabreeze T3 variant comes with a Soundmax AD1981B audio chip, a red diagnostic LED and a latest Gateway bios string of SR84510A.46T.0018.P7E which takes Celeron support up to D350. There is a reliable Bios upgrade at Gateway for this model.
Drivers are easy to find at the usual support sites for all models.

This motherboard and bios and drivers info applies to UK Emachines models 2210 2220 2230 2240 3210 3220 3250 3260 4250 4260 and also T2742 T2796 T2798 T2824 T2862 T2885 T2890 T2893 T2894 T2896 T2898 T2958 T2984 T3624 T3828 T3830 T3958 D2823 D2880 H2824 H2862 H3624 H3824 H3958 W2888

The Gateway/Emachines socket 478 Hazelton board has Intel 865GV/ICH5 chipset. Support for 2GB of DDR266/333/400 memory. Dual-Channel memory works where the modules match, but there is no AGP Graphics slot. A decent platform for the Celeron D325 to D340 processors, and will doubtless support older Pentiums.

Has signal connectors for SATA Hard Drives. Sound is the usual Realtek ALC202A. Bios upgrade to BF86510A.15A.0087.P21 is available at Gateway for this board, which extends processor support to Celeron 3.06GHz and oldish Pentium 3.4GHz/1MB cache. Gateway have some details of processor support with the bios upgrade documentation. Drivers available at the usual places.

The Gateway/Emachines socket 775 Augsburg 915G/GV board is implemented in two variants, with and without a PCIEx16 video slot. Main Chipset is Intel 915GV with ICH6 southbridge, and Intel GMA900 graphics which are considered adequate for home cinema. Sound is Realtek ALC860. LAN is the familiar PRO/VE Intel 82562EZ. Like the 865 chipset it supports 533 and 800FSB, but drops support for 400FSB processors. This is a moot point since this board comes with socket775.

This is the Augsburg 915G (Similar to Intel D915GAGL):

SATA connectors are provided, but only one EIDE slot which makes PATA Hard Drives unrealistically slow in the presence of an optical drive (Ultra DMA mode2) on the same ribbon. Memory is expandable to 4GB in dual-channel at DDR333/400. The power supply is 24 pin. Because this is a recent board, it will doubtless include microcode for a lot of single core processors if you bear in mind the bios date. Gateway Bios upgrades AG91510J.15A.0816.Pxx are the same for both variants and takes processor support up to Pentium 560, 3.6GHz/1MB, and an Emachines version is available in the UK. Drivers readily available at the usual sources.

A compatible board with a video slot, available at time of writing, is this ECS 915G-M:

http://tinyurl.com/f53b8 <--- short link to Intel Bios upgrad from PO7 to PO8

Will I fry my machine because of a special emachines bios requirement?

I'm adding a PCI video card and in preparing I discovered the PCI video recognition problems with BIOS PO7.

Thanks.

That bios update at Intel, VA84510A.86A.0023.P08 is dated 26th Sept. 2003.
I think you will find your Emachines P07 Bios is later than that, so you shouldn't have any issues with PCI Video card. The fix should be incorporated already.

I don't believe anyone has tested the (latest) Intel retail bios on an Emachines board, or even succeeded in getting it flashed over. Probably wouldn't do any serious harm.
Making a backup is relatively straightforward:
Quote:
You need one blank floppy disc and a copy of the P19 iflash bios update downloaded to your T2958 desktop. Available here:
http://www.intel.com/products/motherboa ... /tools.htm

Put it in a new folder called "Intel BIOS".
Open the folder and double clck on the app.
It will create a pile of icons.
Double click on Run.bat and insert the blank floppy.
The software will be installed to the floppy.
Reboot with the floppy in the drive.
The bios update will fail and take you to the C:\ prompt.
type "dir" to see what is on the C: drive.
type as follows "copy iflash.exe a:\"
type "a:" (To take you to the floppy drive, because the C: drive is a RAM disk...)
type "dir" to see what is on the a: drive, you should see iflash.exe there.
Now delete everything on the a: drive except command.com and iflash.exe. You do this file by file, so for instance type "del autoexec.bat" and so on.
Your a: drive should be down to the two files, which you confirm with the dir command.

Reboot using the three fingered salute (aka CTRL-ALT-DEL) with that floppy in the drive, hit return on date and time, and type "dir" to confirm it is the simple bootable with command.com and iflash.exe on it.
Now type "iflash /sB 2958.BIO"
Now the dir command will reveal the presence of a bios backup file called 2958.BIO which should be precisely 368,800 Bytes in size.

Now I would love to see if that file will work on my P03 machine...

I'm going to install the video card without installing or changing the BIOS tonight or tomorrow night. From the research I've done so far, and thanks for your help here too, it appears that I shouldn't need to upgrade my BIOS.

Thanks for your help. I'll report back on how things go.

I umplugged wires from here:

And now I don't remember how they went in so I can't turn my computer on with the button. If someone could just post a picture with the wires plugged in it would be a big help!

Intel stuff is pretty standard, like this D915GAV guide:
http://www.intel.com/design/motherbd/av/av_con.htm

Coloured wires are live, white/black is earth usually. Cool

Hi There.
I'm having a graphics problem, I have a emachines 3260 with onboard graphics Intel(R)82845G/GL/GE/PE/GV Graphics Adaptor. Also I have a PCI NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 Graphics Adaptor, & have put it in & installed it. I have tryed the following:
1) Disabling Onboard (With Monitor in PCI graphics)

2) Updating PCI graphics from NIVIDIA Site

3) Selecting PCI Graphics as Primary monitor

4) Setting BIOS from AGP to PCI

5) Monitor Default setting is: PLUG AND PLAY (MAG INNOVISION) monitor

But the PCI just don't wonna play! with trying all the above all I keep getting is a blank screen. Im not sure if it has a Express slot, but I have tryed the Card in all of the PCI slots, which there Im sure are 3.

Please Can you help!!!

The trick is to uninstall the onboard graphics driver and software BEFORE fitting a PCI graphics card.

Then add the card with power unplugged. Unplug the hard drive. Now check the bios is displaying on its output. If not, connect your monitor to onboard Intel Extreme 2 graphics and change some bios settings, save and exit and shut down. Try it till it works.

Now unplug, and reconnect the hard drive and reboot. Windows should be displaying on the graphic card. Then you install the NVidia drivers and software.

You may find that tapping SAFE MODE F8 key after the bios screen gets you in. The problem is the bios and/or Windows display can end up on the wrong output in this situation, and it takes some figuring out.
