T6420 Bios Update for MS-7207

eMachines has an updated Bios posted on their support web page:

I have tried to find out what issues it addresses by contacting their support via email and their online service. Apparently their techs are not allowed to give this info unless the customer has a problem that the update covers. All I could get out of them was the canned info about the dangers of updating the Bios and that it wasn't recommended except to solve a specific problem.

Does anyone know what issues this update covers?

I've already did the Bios update A720NE7.117 and it running fine on my T6216. Don't know what are the new features that came with it.

I would like to upgrade the BIOS with the original from MSI.

MSI MS-7207 (K8NGM2-L) > C6423 C6535 D6419 T6216 T6420 T6528 T6532

I'm afraid to kill the Bios if I do. I can't find any useful infos or tips to give me the green light to go.

It seems to use the same AMI BIOS on both the MSI and Emachine version.

I'm looking to get all the options in the Bios setup. The Cool and quiet feature for Athlon 64 is the most wanted.

Any tips or experiences with bios update from the motherboard manufacturer in Emachine computer anyone?

As I'm sure dfi400 knows, these retail bios experiments can get VERY complicated. Have a go by all means, being aware of the dangers, and the possible hard work involved. Make a backup first though.

Even if the bios is unsuitable, you can usually recover...eventually... :D

Mr. System7, thx for the info... I know it could lead to many problems but I might try it.

Do you know what are the procedures in case the Bios update goes wrong to recover it?

Now Blaster, onto that retail bios upgrade.
Your get out of jail card here is to put that latest 512KB Emachines bios file onto a formatted floppy and rename it AMIBOOT.ROM
You will find it in that Cabs/MS7207 folder on the C: drive. This is the usual AMI bios recovery floppy, explained at MSI.
You can open Notepad and use it to have a look at the autoexec.bat file in the same Emachines Bios update folder.

Woohoo!!

I Flashed my T6216 (MSI MS-7207) with K8NGM2-IL/K8NGM2-L (MS-7207) V1.5 BIOS Release and it worked!!

I have too many options enabled that I don't know where to start!! Smile

So, anybody who have a MS-7207 in their EMachine and what to unleashed all the motherboard features, you have the green light to do it!!

Nope!

No problem at all.

I'll keep you abreast if I notice something wrong but the Cool and Quiet feature works like a charm and I was able to overclock my ATHLON 64 3200+ (2GHZ) @ 3500+ (2.2GHZ).
