Bios upgrades are often done from a floppy drive, if it needs to be a bootable floppy, you may need to make a clean one with the drdflash utility (ie minus such nonsense as emm386...).
Available here:
ftp://ftp.abit.com.tw/pub/download/util ... dflash.exe

My two cents worth...

Sounds like you need to edit the config.sys on your boot disk and comment out (or remove) the part where the memory manager is enabled.

The line should read something like this:

DEVICE=himem.sys blah blah blah

Now correct me if I'm not following this correctly, if you make a bootable floppy in XP, you end up with a lot of unwanted drivers on it.
So you guys make a Win98 bootdisk from that site bootdisk.com, you then boot from it. But you are not going to try a flash with all that Win98 stuff loaded, including Himem.sys memory manager and Ramdrive, are you?
What you do is boot it without CD support and at the A prompt type: format a:/s
Then you will be prompted to insert a blank floppy, which will be formatted with only command.com on it. This is the simple bootable floppy that you require is it not?
Excuse me if I'm way off base here.

yeah well did make a bootable floppy ... as it was explained from bootdisk.com ... then I started up the notebook again with the bootable floppy ... and wait until I get to the A prompt ... and from there I am lost ... I then put the biosdisk in and tried to execute k.bat which doesn't work.
So I tried to do it with the ME08 bios and exectue f.bat ... worked ... got to the bios flash screen and then I get this error message cannot flas bios because of Memory Manager (i.e. Himem) is present ... there is where I get lost ... sorry ... :cry:

I want to get this Bios updated ... just need to know how to do that step by step ... in details ... sorry ... I am doing this the first time and i am willing to learn something new ...

I know this doesn't belong here ... but I know from MSI-Computer.com you just download the Bios Updates to a floppy ... reboot the computer with that disk and that's it ... the Bios is updated ... that easy and every dummy like ME can do it ... LOL. ( Don't want to offend anyone here ... )

I just want this done and get it over with ... LOL ... I have spent hours with the emachine support if they would provide me with a bios update or any driver update ... but of course NOT ... instead I get a stupid answer it would be my responsebility to find new drivers and do a research on the net ... excusse me ? ... eMachines is selling those notebooks so it's their responsebility to keep them up to date ... other companies are capebale of doing that ...

damn lam emachine support ... !!!!

I did use the one with only the command.com on it ... rebooted the notebook and got to directly to the A prompt ... without the bla bla bla before ... and then I thought now or never ... to the bootdisk out and put the Biosdisk in and executed the f.bat and there you go ... it worked LOL.
